Camino de Santiago — Day 4 Portomarín to Gonzar – Slowing Into the Journey (8 km)
You stop checking your phone as much.
Walking becomes automatic.
You start noticing:
- trees
- sounds
- your own breathing
There’s no urgency this morning. The path ahead is short, and for the first time, you truly feel it.
Leaving Portomarín, the trail winds through rolling countryside—quiet, open, and gently undulating. You find yourself walking slower, not because you have to, but because you can.
Stops become longer. Coffee tastes better. Conversations, even brief ones, feel more present.
By midday, you arrive in Gonzar, a small village that feels almost deliberately untouched by time. Check into Casa García [Check Availability Here], a simple countryside stay where comfort comes from calm rather than luxury.
The afternoon stretches easily—perhaps a short walk, perhaps nothing at all.
Dinner is quiet, often shared among fellow travelers, and the simplicity of it all begins to feel like a luxury in itself.
✨ Travel Tip: Don’t rush through shorter days. These are the moments that define the Camino’s slower rhythm.

A conversation starts without effort.
A shared table, a laugh, a story exchanged between strangers.
Somehow, you feel less alone.
